I'm kind of shocked that 5e doesn't seem to have a really good Treefolk species.
Even with 3 Magic Settings! It's weird?

It is really bizarre that Gnolls never got playable stats (aside from the DMG NPC adjustment chart).

In fact, the lack of guidance on making new playable Species options out of "Monsters," like 3E Savage Species (problematic as that could be). I really, really hope this is rectified in the new DMG or MM.

Maenads may need some retouch.
If you touch Maenads, I’m calling the cops.
There have been an attempts at a plant species, generally with some fey elements, the Killoren from 3.5, or the Wilden from 4e.
I played a Geomancer in 3.5Ed, using only the planty aspects of that PrCl’s Drift feature. Brother Sycamore was inspired by DC’s 1990 version of Swamp Thing. Loads of fun!
Shardminds as a construct species
I like constructs in general, but I was always bothered by their lack of diversity.

Certainly, there’s lots of different forms/kinds of autonomous constructs in the game, but they’re almost all unique types- not related to each other in any way. Whomever created the Warforged only made bipedal humanoids. The mind that created the clockwork horror decided they got it right the first time and stopped.*

Why not have some kind of a DaVinci-esque mad creator(s) who made a bunch of different kinds of constructs? Maybe even with interchangeable parts, a la Micronauts?

* though, to be fair, he might have been killed by his own creations…
