The game began well. We had four straight sessions or so before the DM began cancelling on us, and his attendance only grew slowly worse—it wasn't a sudden shift. He was a fun DM with a cool take on 5e; I loved the setting; and, DM aside, we had six players who always showed up (and on time no less). The game had a lot going for it, and the session that I wrote about was the first time that the DM had blown us off versus cancelling in advance. That was the real game changer.
