Why it was called "Dungeons & Dragons 3e"

I get that. I'm saying that I like the other way of looking at it. Partly because WTF is a "Zeroth Edition"? My point is not that it's a concept that is likely to be widely adopted, but that it's one that makes good sense.
To be fair, if we were to map it to software, OD&D is more like the “Alpha release” of Dungeons & Dragons, Holmes is the Beta, and 1e (and B/X) are two alternative versions of Edition 1.0.

But that’s pretty nerdy.

But that’s pretty nerdy.
I might quibble that Holmes is more like a tutorial/intro product, given the level limits, but yeah.
