So, picking up on that other thread on Tiamat. This ancient being of chaos was one of the few, if not the only, female unique named being in the AD&D monster manual.

So the real sexism is that she was the token (and perhaps the heart) of high level monsters.

But then Gygax gets to work. One after another, he adds powerful unique beings that are female, and puts them in adventures. In some they are even stated up to kill the PCs! In one its just a reference, but then her daughter is there! (Though probably not killing the PCs, its not that easy an encounter to make the most of). AND he puts Tiamat on TV! Did the platinum dragon regularly appear on network television?

Sexist or anti-sexist?

Either way, Gygax really had a thing for female big bads. Really a thing.

So you're criticizing him both ways? Seems a bit unfair. Some people just aren't allowed to win.

A man is accused of sexism. Okay, I go check out the accusations.

Did EGG force himself on women? Did he make misogynist statements? Did some women come out to say he was an naughty word?

No. Some "historian" is building the weakest case I've ever seen, claiming EGG thought "men are good, women bad" with exceptionally little data and based on FICTIONAL entities.

Look. EGG published harlot tables. He was a man during the 70s and 80s. He very probably had thoughts that today will deem sexist. We all did. Media then uncritically portrayed women as items to be desired. Expecting EGG or any author to somehow not manifest that is just incomprehensible.

Instead; was he more dismissive of and offensive against women than the next guy? I don't think so. I mean, I don't know, he could. But making up evil goddesses is extreme weaksauce.

This is a witch hunt. And a disgrace.

Tl;Dr: unless actual allegations come forth this is a storm in an incredibly tiny teacup. Yech.

Oh well. This was not really about the other thread and the facts and accusations therein.

It’s neither praise nor criticism.

It’s that Gygax had like 5 female behind the scenes villains in a row. Including 1 goddess , 1 demon goddess, 1 demon lord, and 1 also really into demons (and one at least demon curious, wielding the greater tentacle rod). Plus putting Tiamat on television.

When people are warned not to post such screeds in one thread, simply posting it in a different thread is completely inappropriate. Since this is now your 20th warning point, and you are by far the person with the most warning points on the site, something I've pointed out to you on more than once occasion I think at this stage it is abundantly clear that you simply don't care and that you have no intention of following the site's rules.
