What is the story there?
Tramp was originally supposed to do all the art for MM.
Apparently, Tramp was behind schedule and would often go out and drink instead of finishing the art, so DCS was brought in.
It's why DCS was eventually elevated to Art Director.
True, but in fairness to DCS, he had to do his work with tight deadlines, so I don't think that a lot of the work in the MM is his best work.
The Tramp version would not have released as soon ... or would have had a LOT of blank area.

How inconvenient
I've always um... not like liked DCS art much and I'm not so sure whether it was all deadlines. In fact... never mind.
To be fair, though, he did have one redeeming quality, and that is that he somehow had an extremely good eye for - and understanding of - 'composition' and 'dynamics'. I mean, you can say what you like about that paladin and the barbed devil, but the dynamics are spot on.
