D&D 1E Black Pudding and other 1E MM art credits?

Hey all!

I am working on a new post for HOW-I-RUN-IT.com detailing my version of the Black Pudding, contextualized with previous versions throughout the editions.

I was wondering if anyone either specifically knew who drew the Black Pudding in the AD&D Monster Manual (1977) or of a site where the art credits for the book are listed (since they are not listed in the book, and only some of them are signed).

Thanks!

Here is the art in question:

I'd also love to ID the version in the 2E Monstrous Manual. My guess is David Simons, based on the vague acknowledgments/credits at the beginning of the book.

All art in the 1e MM was by David C. Sutherland III, Dave Trampier, Tom Wham and Jean Wells.

Based on the art, I don't think it's Tom Wham.
We know it isn't Jean Wells (she only added to the 4th edition, and this isn't one of them).

That leaves DCS and DT.

Based on the drawing and other extrinsic evidence, I think it's Trampier.

So my first reaction was: "Seriously? How can anyone not know that that's Dave Trampier?"

But then I realized that this obviously meant that something was amiss, and so it is. So where has the DAT gone that I've seen on this illustration since, well, forever?

Hmm...

I'm sure you went through the same process, but here goes anyway.

The MM1 4th edition title page says:
Illustrations by David C. Sutherland Ill
D. A. Trampier
Tom Wham
Jean Wells
Cover by David C. Sutherland Ill

Looking at the illustrations done by Tom Wham, such as the beetle on page 9, the beholder, the blink dog, ...

Dammit, ninja'd by the liquefactionist.

Yeah, DAT was my guess, but like I said there was no sig - so I was hoping someone could confirm. Thanks.

That is my guess too! I was just hoping someone had more evidence/source.

I don't have a specific source, but based on both the art and the history of the art in the Monster Manual (when and why DCS was brought in) I don't think there is any real argument that it ISN'T Tramp.
