Germany
Germany is a key player in the transatlantic relationship. The US-German relationship has been the backbone of the international order for seven decades. As one half of the Franco-German engine in the European Union, Germany is crucial to creating balance in the EU, thanks to NATO and greater European integration. While tensions in the US-German relationship remain due to differences on defense spending, climate change, trade, economic policy, and migration, a strong transatlantic community and rules-based order relies on close US-German cooperation.
