Warpiglet-7
Cry havoc! And let slip the pigs of war!
I have mixed feelings about some of this…Yeah, I am unsure about some of the changes, but some of them look cool so it's worth the price to pick it up and take a look. I may cherry-pick some rules and features to hybridize into my game. Time will tell if the 2014/2024 ratio in my game is 80%/20%, 50%/50%, or something else.
I am mostly looking forward to the Monster Manual, so of course it's the last book of the core three to be released. I feel like there has been a lot of player-side power creep (looking at you, Tasha's Crucible of Everything) without a commensurate increase on the monster side, but the 2025 MM might change that.
We played BECMI a couple years back for a lark. We play 5e now otherwise.
And it was fun! But long term…I really like the new toys as a player. I just do and I admit it. I also like the durability characters at times when I DM so I can turn up the heat without the anxiety of a total party wipe at every turn.
Yet, I crave challenge as a player. I like some close fights and times where I pull out lots of abilities to just get through.
When you are “more” into challenge than being the star every round, it takes a lot of doing.
If they don’t amp up the monsters some it will continue that trend which
I am sure there are ace DMs that are very good at challenge gradients and this won’t be a problem. Its still a skill I am learning with 5e all these years later.
